Obaidul Islam Shaheen slipped to second position as he lost the eighth round board in the Prime Bank 11th Open International Rating Chess Tournament at the federation hall-room yesterday.

FIDE Master Abu Sufian Shakil beat Obaidul to increase his tally to seven points and share the lead along with FIDE Master Mehdi Hasan Parag and FIDE Master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon.

Sohel Chowdhury, Pritam Prijam and Abdul Majed followed the leaders along with Obaidul with 6.5 points each.

In the other eighth round matches, Emon beat Robin, Parag beat Mohammad Ali, Sohel beat Mohammad Shameem, Majed beat Sheikh Rashedul Hasan, Reza beat Abdullah Al Saif, Uten beat Nahid Parvej, Feroz beat Hanif Mollah, Sharif beat Mizanur Rahman, Chapal beat Mokaddesur Rahman and Momin beat Sharmin Sultana Shirin.
