Asked to appear in HC Feb 22

The High Court yesterday directed the managing director of Jamuna Builders Ltd to appear before the court on February 22 in connection with a contempt of court charge.

The court also issued a rule upon Shamim Islam, MD of the firm, to explain within 10 days why the proceedings should not be brought against him on charges of misquoting an HC order.

The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Borhan Uddin came up with the rule upon filing of a contempt of court petition by Rajuk Chairman Nurul Huda.

Nurul Huda on Sunday filed the petition with the HC against Shamim for submitting two appeals to the Rajuk chairman misquoting the court's order.

On February 3, the HC in an order summarily rejected a writ petition challenging a Rajuk notice that asked Jamuna Builders Ltd to demolish the unauthorised top four floors of the 10-storey Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex.

Shamim Islam the same day submitted two appeals to the Rajuk chairman against the Rajuk notice, stating that he submitted the appeals as per the HC direction.

Advocate AFM Mesbahuddin appeared for the Rajuk chairman while advocate Ahsanul Karim argued for Shamim Islam.
