Fair probe into death of Jasas leader demanded

BNP leaders yesterday demanded an impartial investigation into the death of Amirul Islam Mintu, a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas), in police custody and trial of the persons responsible for his death.
They also threatened to wage a tough movement if any more party man dies in the hands of law enforcement agencies.
The government is using the law enforcement agencies to repress the opposition, said Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka at a protest rally organised by the BNP Ramna thana unit in front of the party's central office in the city.
The law enforcement agencies are engaged in harassing and torturing the opposition party men rather than ensuring security of the people, he added.
Khoka also called upon the party leaders and activists to remain united to strengthen the party's organisational base in order to launch tougher movement.
Abdus Salam, former general secretary of Dhaka city BNP, said Awami League is hatching a conspiracy to destroy BNP though harassing and killing BNP leaders and activists.
Ramna thana BNP president Chowdhury Alam and general secretary Nani Talukder and Dhaka city Jasas vice-president Faizullah Faiz also spoke.
